Today, John Bel for Louisiana released a video on all social media platforms highlighting Gov. John Bel Edwards’ support for passing teacher pay raises in the Louisiana Legislature.
On Wednesday, May 29th, Gov. Edwards stood with the Coalition for Public Education, legislators and teachers from around the state on the steps of the Louisiana state capitol to urge the Louisiana House of Representatives to pass legislation that would increase teacher pay and public school funding in the state.
The Louisiana House Appropriations Committee will convene Sunday to hear that legislation, which would provide a $1000 pay raise for teachers, a $500 pay raise for support staff and a $39 million investment in state aid for public schools.
“The number one ingredient for quality education remains a highly professional, motivated, well-educated teacher in that classroom teaching within his or her area of certification,” said Gov. John Bel Edwards. “This is one of those rare opportunities where we have to come together as Louisianans — not Democrats, Republicans and Independents — but as Louisianans, to do what is right for our state.”
